Post Friction Knot for Tarp Suspension

I changed my suspension system for my Hennessy Hammock and Tarp today. For the hammock i used a standard whoopie sling with 7/64" amsteel blue. For the tarp i wanted to used amsteel blue with a friction knot, but read of people having trouble with it. Heres what i did, and it worked.

I used 7 feet of amsteel blue and put a Locked Brummel on one end. The other end was Back Spliced(#9). I tied a Triple Fishermans Knot in some 150lb guyline to make a loop about 6" in diameter. I used the loop to tie a Klemheist onto the backspliced end of the Tarp Suspension(middle diagram). I tried a variety of prusik's (3 and 4 wraps), but they all slide when pulled taught.

    Hope this helps some folks!

I converted my Hennessey over today to whoopie slings and ran into the same issue that prussik knots don't hold under tension on Amsteel. I would like to see pics of your setup!

If you were able to keep the easy of use of the HH after the conversion that would be great! I had to run a separate ridge line to the biner for the tarp, which isn't hard, but I like the one line and done aspect of HH.

    Please update us...

Amsteel is a litttle overkill for tarp suspension due to its breaking strength and its coating does not hold friction as well as it needs to. Great that your set up worked and looking forward to some pics.

Great job! It seems like a Klemheist works better than a prusik for most people. It also helps you're using smaller line rather than say lash-it on lash-it..

With a Hennessey the main suspension line is also the tarp suspension. Hennessey uses prussiks to lash the tarrp onto the hammock suspension line. That is we're the problem with Amsteel comes into play since that arrangement no longer works. I hope he has come up with a solution!

I would also throw in a Valdotain tresse knot.
I have found this one to be great at holding and easier to push forward to tighten. It also helps me because I am a arborist who uses this know when I am climbing. So i am familiar with it and I trust it's holding capabilities.

    I like that a lot!

The worst part of the klemheists and penberthy prusiks for me is having to twist them loose and force them along the rigdeline to tension the tarp. That looks to pretty much solve that problem.
You have converted me to it, Im going to rig that up today.
    Thanks for that

Does it need less wraps than a klemheist?

It needs about the same amount of wraps. Four up top and two more crossing each other going down the rope.
