Haven't hunted since retiring but have been thinking about breaking out the 22 and doing some small game hunting after the big game hunters are out of the woods. Started squirrel hunting alone at the age of 12 on the Little Withlacoochee River. Would make for a fun weekend but I've hunted in the management areas during deer season and have seen some idiots out there. Hopefully you'll be able to make some of our fall hikes and we can discuss it then.

Never hunted a day in my life (grew up in suburbia), but I'd be up for a hang where I could learn the basics, for certain. We'll see how it goes come Fall.

I do not do it as much as i did when I was younger I am getting back into it. I am always down for any small game. I will not deer hunt with a gun anymore unless it is on private land though florida in this area got way to reckless.

I hunt deer,,but to me,,where I hunt in southern Indiana,,hanging would screw up the areas, and don't get me wrong as I hunt large tracts of wooded hills of 1000 acres or more. And unless I was hunting out west,,I wouldn't consider, camping, hanging and hunting as it would be too constrictive especially on the larger bucks..that is not to say,,you would have no problems filling the tags on the does and smaller bucks. To hunt the "Grey Ghost", you need to be as aniseptic and as stealthy as possible,,as invisible as the deer your hunting and I find that I would have to camp totally away from the area I wanted to hunt in order to accomplish my goals. Here is just a few racks of whitetail and sorry if they are not perfect pics as I just quickly snapped them and uploaded them now. they are all 20" to 26" wide spreads and have more stashed here and there. I also hunt by myself so as not to have the areas screwed up with bow, handgun, muzzleloaders, and shotguns.

I went out two days in the green swamp during archery season, and I saw people doing all kinds of stupid things. You're right about hunting on private land, its the only way to go. If we could get some access to a private hunting lease somewhere, I think a hunt n hang would be great.
    with two m's, like "hammock."

EH, I haven't been in a management area in years but my past experiences are that after the weekend warriors are finished with deer season the woods are much safer. Looks like a small game hike and hang could be worked out for the spring during the small game season. Time to start doing some research.
