How to keep UQ from bunching up?

Hey all, just made a makeshift UQ with an old sleeping bag and some batting.

My problem lies after it is hung, the length of the UQ seems to bunch up, (Im using the channel suspension.

Is there anyway to keep this from happening without using prussik knots or any hardlining?
Trying to keep it easy to slide where it needs to be.

    TIA

Granted, I am not using shock cord yet since my new order hasnt come in yet.

This seems like it would keep the UQ from sagging.

IS this the only issue or something im missing?

You can try stitching your channel a little tighter to the suspension, that way it'll catch better. A couple bartacks near each end should help.

If your quilt is too heavy for your suspension (I'm assuming shockcord of some kind?), it will sag. You can try tightening the suspension? See how that goes.

If those dont do the trick, pass another short suspension line (shockcord) up over your ridgeline to lift the middle. That'll require sewing on a loop or two for the shockcord, midpoints of your quilt.

EDIT> I see now your not using s.c., so adding some to one end and adjusting should help. A simple bungee has been used in the past by some.

    Good luck

I had the same problem with an IX UQ I made. I ended up going away from side channel suspension, but did find that cinching it a bit on the side made a better seal, so I ran some shock cord down the sides just for that purpose.

Another option would be to put corner pullouts on, and use a prussik loop on each corner to keep the UQ from bunching up...

    My big winter UQ bunches.

I ran a length of shock cord through the cinch end channel, then put mitten hooks on the end. I then put cord locks on the main shockcord suspension so I could hook the cinch channel cord ends onto the cord locks, giving a fully adjustable setup.

Its done the trick for me .

I really like this seeing as it allows adjustability but able to lock it down.
    Great thinking!

Full length and DIY conversions that are heavier should consider...Add corner tabs, and change your suspension over...It is quite easy and UQ will stay where you put then using the corner suspension.

+1 I was having some issue with PLUQ that I made and tried attaching the suspension to the corners instead of running it throught the channels. It stays fully spread out under the hammock now. I will say though that the initial setup seemed to take a little longer, but now that it is setup it doesn't move lengthwise on the hammock while I am sleeping.

You guys sure are the experts- I remember the bliss of putting on the UQ, fiddling a bit, and having it be just right.

I've also tried wrapping the foot end of the heavier quilt up around the hammock- seems to make it snugger but does impact a little on the lay.
