    Question about Tri Glides

I'm trying out JRB TG's for my suspension. I've set them up different from the instructions. Just wondering if it is safe. I have a carabiner in the loop end of strap that I clip on the strap after it goes around tree. The other end I run through a decender ring and back to the TG that is threaded on the strap. I plan to leave it all together and just clip the carabiner on the strap and adjust when hanging my hammock. I am around 300 lbs.

    Thanks for any input.

From what I'm picturing it sounds safe, but I don't have any experience with the setup personally. I've used two rings tied to the end of the hammock as a buckle with the strap.

As long as the rest of the hardware on the strap is rated for your weight, I can't see it having any problems. I weigh ~185 to ~200 pounds, depending on my current spot in training, and I've never had a problem (30-50 nights) with the straps.

However, that's a completely unscientific estimate. Take it with a grain of salt

Sounds good as long as your carabiner is climbing rated.

The descender ring is larks-headed to your hammock, I'm assuming? With Amsteel or similarly strong attachment?

Sounds like you've got a "regular" setup going. No issues.

One comment: keep the strap coming off the tree to the side, not in the middle. (In other words, position the carabiner so it's essentially at 90* to the strap it's hooking over.) That creates a lot of friction and takes pressure off the carabiner.

Thanks so much for all the help. In answer to some of the questions: I'm using a climbing rated carabiner and decender ring. The DC is larks headed to my stock HH rope right now. If I settle on this set up I will lighten up w/maybe a Dutch clip and an amsteel loop. I just spent my 8th & 9th nights in my HH Safari so I'm still experimenting/learning.

Again thanks for the tips, cautions and advice.
