    How many stitches per inch?

    Hello,

How many stitches per inch does one recommend? I can select 5-30 stitches per inch on my old Singer 15-91 clone.

My little dial for stitch length is a little over the 3 mark for a normal straight stitch. I don't know that equates to stitches per inch because it does a lot more than 3 stitches per inch. If I had to guess I would say 8-10, maybe more.

I was about to say the same thing lol. My machine is normal set to 3 on the stitch spacing, which seems to work the best. I just played around with it till I found one that worked.

It really matters what fabric you're working with? For silnylon, I would go with what HC4U had said, 8-10. For something heavier, you don't need quite as many - 8 maximum.

Your dial is probably marked in mm if you are using 3. Divide 25.4 by that number to get stitches per inch. 10 per inch is about 2.5, 3 is about 8.
