    Noob Suspension for GT

Hi everyone. Im a hammock noob and I just got a Grand Trunk UL. Im planning on testing it out on a hike today, but Im not sure what kind of suspension system to use. I want to go cheap for this test run but in the future I plan on using whoopie slings and tree huggers. Any advice would help! Thanks

Put any strap you can find, tie a loop at the end and tie a rope to it if you just want to hang today. If you want to use it for a while, I'd go with a ring buckle set up. It's quick and easy and you can re-purpose some of the parts if you want to do something else.

For suspension I would stick with stuff that is rated for at least 1000lbs. I have SMC descender rings from REI and whoopieslings.com and 1" poly seat belt straps from strapworks.com. Stay away from nylon, it stretches. Those things will take a week or so to get.

I use amsteel for rope. If you have a West Marine close you can get it from there and they will price match Redden Marine. Otherwise you'll have to order from somewhere. You can tie knots in amsteel but it's not advised due to the significant degradation of strength, and it's slippery stuff and doesn't like to hold them.

If you want something right now, go to the hardware store and see what you can get cheap that you'll only use once or twice.
