Thanks for putting this stuff together guys.

I have been looking at tyvek for uses since everyone keeps talking about it. I just did not know anything about it, other than what people say about it being fairly light and fairly waterproof.

I just finished reading them. Good work on them.

I have a question about the stuff. I hear of a lot of people using them as ground sheets. How well does tyvek hold up to abrashion from walking around on this on the uneven ground?

I ask this because eventually I want to make a tarp for my dad to use on canoe trips. We usually only seem to go when it is cold out. I want to make a tarp/shelter that has 5 sides. Basically a rectangle with one of the long ends open. Something to set next to the fire to keep warm and dry and reflect the heat back. I want a floor in it so you do not have to set on the ground. This would also serve as a gear cover when canoing.

Each use sees a decent amount of abrashion.

Tyvek does great as a ground cloth. There have been people who have used the same piece of Tyvek for an entire thru hike with no problems.

The only problem that may be of concern is that after extended use the surface of the Tyvek becomes a little "fuzzy" and can pick up small leaves and debris. No big deal as you can simply shake this stuff off.

    Thumbs up

The Tyvek article looks awesome. Learned quite a bit. I REALLY!!!! appreciate how it is laid out. The information is easy to reference a small portion of.
    WELL DONE!!!

If I could make a couple suggestions to make it even more complete, it would
    be this:
-EDIT ********* never mind. im retarted. found it included once i dug for it.**********

    - include more pictures of tyvek gear as a complement to the main 2 articles.
People then have an idea of what a DIY project could look like before starting.
Or get totally inspired by something they would never have thought of.
like basically any pics of tyvek hikers gear. stuff like that would be cool.

good job. Found this article to be extremely helpful and comprehensive.

I am thinking about ordering a roll of the Soft Structure Tyvek for Material Concepts site (Type 1443R , kite Tyvek). You can get 10 yards, 60" wide roll for 49.00. Pretty cheap.

Maybe someone might want split a roll if I decide to do this. 5 yards should be enough for a hammock plus some extra to experiment with.
