From the LSHT Yahoo Group:

Dear Hikers--Below is a note I received from Stephanie Johnson today:
------------------------------------------
When the U.S. Forest Service held the public meeting on April 24, we heard that
the public wants all trails open as soon as possible. That is also our goal.

Some of the Lone Star Hiking Trail is in the "low risk" category and will be
among the first areas open.

Public comments also indicated that the Multi-Use Trail, the Equestrian Trail
and the Double Lake Mountain Bike Trail are of high interest too.

We understand there is inherent risk in the forest, whether it comes from
poisonous snakes, lightning strikes or falling trees. While the Forest Service
has little control over snakes or lightning, we can lower the risk of falling
trees in recreation areas and along trails.

The Lone Star Hiking Trail is one of the top trails in the National Forests in
Texas and is among our top priorities to open. We plan to open segments of the
trail the week of May 14 and as other segments of the trail are cleared, they
will be opened also.

For the most up-to-date information on the progress of trail openings, you may
call the Ranger's Office at 936-344-6205, or visit www.fs.usda.gov/texas

Sincerely,

Stephanie Neal Johnson
Acting Forest Supervisor
