Do you think that it is a good idea and if so is it possible to turn a British army sleeping bag into a under quilt.

Anything is possible! Do you have a link to the bag to make it easier on us lazy Yanks?
I've done a couple of conversions of bags to UQs, from just sewing on small tabs to hang it from to cutting out the foot end to pass the hammock thru.
Good luck,

I use my u.s. issue as top quilt selections. Do away with the zippers and tuck the head cover. Cary the bivy as an extra precaution for having to go to ground and it can be stuck between layers for extra warmth.
Where ever you go,
There you are.

I think it would be possible but the weight penalty would be big as those sleeping bags are not light or small, but they are warm, i have never been cold in one since i first got issued one. There are new sleeping bags being issued which i will get for my next trip to Afghanistan next year.
I'm never sure when looking at these British Army bags, which model is which.
I have one which was sold as an 'artic' model and I'd second what 'Royal Engineer' has said, you won't be cold, but I'd hate to have to carry it anywhere. It weighs 'a lot' and doesn't pack that small. I would only think about using it in really cold conditions, and if I was using my canoe. No way I'd think about putting it on my back.
But maybe this isn't the artic one?
