    Strap slippage

The wife and I got our uq's yesterday so as soon as the kids fell asleep we of course snuck out to test them. They work great of course and now I get to really enjoy the comfort of my BB. However it rained big time all night and around 2 a.m. I felt the hammock shudder. Thought it was due to my restless leg syndrome and started to go back to sleep when it did it again. Decided to get up and make sure the tree wasnt falling after seeing the post on one falling last night. I was about 5 inches from the ground. The drip down the straps had caused the buckle to allow slippage. Readjusted and put a slippery half hitch on it and had no more issues. Guess I am saying this because there is no need for anything when they are dry but if you expect rain you might want to add that knot just in case.

I have experienced this, although there was no water involved, and the buckle was not Warbonnet issue. The slippery half-hitch is always a good practice with webbing based suspensions.

Lucky enough to have never had need as of yet in the rain but I will now keep a sharper lookout in downpours - thanks!

If you look at Brandon's youtube video.

He recommends you always use a slippery half hitch in the continues variable webbing suspension.

Funny...I never had this happen until just before I read this thread yesterday. I was setting up two hammocks off of two trees. I got mine all set up no problem. When I set up the wife's I gave it a little "bounce test" cause I didn't want it to move at all as she still isn't all that comfortable with the setup, and I felt it slip a little. I re-adjusted and made sure the tails were over the whoopies and it didn't slip again but from no on I will tie the half hitch just to be sure. Really I can't figure out why I wasn't already. I do on everything else...

I thought that the new design of the WB cinch buckles did not require a slippery half hitch backup (even being detrimental?)? I could be wrong on this.

Were these the old version or new version buckles?

This is the new buckles and I have never had any issue on dry straps. Note with the old buckles you would slip even with the straps dry. The straps were just so wet I think it could make anything slip. Funny thing is I have always put the knot in to just get any excess strap off the ground but for some reason I didnt on the head end that night. Glad It did a gradual slip and I didnt just go thud.

I second this, Its a habit now with this type of suspension.
