Thanks everyone for all the ideas! After searching around my house I found some wire with a solid strain of copper in it thats perfect for amsteel but JUST too big for the 1.75mm zing-it. I'm going to head to a music store on the way home today and get a high e guitar string and see if I have any better luck with that. I can tell this stuff is not going to be easy to splice. Even getting the wire into the zing-it
Is hard let alone pulling the folded over end through.

In my limited experience the hardest part is getting the wire though. Do your tapper first and the pull through isn't bad at all.

^Exactly...taper the end enough that you are only folding 4 strands back over 4 strands and the only increase in diameter is due to the wire.

Yeah I do taper the ends and getting the first bit through is always fine but where the taper ends it always seems to get bunched up on me and doesn't want to pull through. With some coaxing It eventually does but it's still a pain. With some practice I'm sure I'll figure out the little tricks that make it easier

I got a spool of small diameter annealed wire at a hardware store and have used it to successfully splice everything from amsteel to mason's twine without much difficulty.

They do make different lengths. I think the longest one I have is around 5"

I usually use a B-string twisted up on itself--just a bit stiffer than using the .011 that comes in the guage guitar strings that I use. Twisting it back on itself gives a little place that I can use to pinch the line and hold it pretty well. Good luck with whatever tool/method you find that works for you.

Just wanted to thank everyone again! I just went out and bought a high E guitar string and it works great! I'm having a little trouble twisting it like everyone recommends it seems to just bounce back but i'll play with that later. I'm actually having a easier time splicing zing it then I do with amsteel for some reason it's not getting as bunched up when I try to first pull it through.

Piano wire is very stiff much more than other wires mentioned in this thread and other similar threads. it can be found at many hardware stores and some hobby stores. It works great bent in half for splicing. if your using flexible wire it may snag or get stuck while splicing. I have also used leader wire and would go that rout if piano wire is not available.

Twisting wire is a little bit of an art. Put the end around something you will be able to slide it off after you're done. Bring your end together and start twisting with your wire at 45* angles. Make sure you're doing both at the same time otherwise you're just spinning one around the other instead of getting a nice looking braid. After you take it off your anchor you'll have an eye for grabbing your line. After Look at 5:45 in this video to get a little better idea about the twisting. You can just fold it over and use it that way. I just think the twisting adds some rigidity, might be my imagination though.
