I have seen a hammock bivy before, it was a commercial one. Don't know who made it though.

It can be. Hard to make one breathable enough yet waterproof not to get a ton of condensation.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

i figured that would be an obstacle. Is the bivy concept even harder to implement in the hammock than on the ground. I use a ground bivy with a top layer of epic, and i experience minimal condensation when used with appropriate amounts of insulation. if we could think of a way to implement epic as a bivy, then i could just use a sil nylon poncho tarp to cover my torso area...

ok so this is pretty much exactly what im thinking about doing. The only change is that i want a small bit of bug netting for ventilation. I think im coming down with the DIY bug and am going to have to stop by "wally world" (as it is known here) after class.
