    Howdy doo from Houston!

    Hi HF

been lurking for a few days.... maybe a week. This place is great.

    My experience with hammock is:
One cold night with a Grand Trunk hammock.

I used a Grand Trunk ____. One of the cheaper ones from REI, probably bought it from one of their sales. At the time, I had no clue people used these for actual camping/hiking.

I still didn't know until I was browsing REIs website for 1 person tents/shelters... I saw they had a Hennessey Hammock that looked a lot more "professional" than my Grand Trunk. That's when I realized from my other hobby that there must be a forum full of enthusiasts with specialty vendors offering things that the mainstream never would. Quick google and here I am.

Just to embarass myself a little with my hammock experience:
*used paracord as my "tree huggers"... sorry tree. Didn't know any better.(obviously will never do that again). Best case, I would have used tie downs with the metal parts intact.
*no pad or underquilt, I didn't think it was necessary... I had a 20 degree bag- woke up really cold throughout the night.
*slept right down the middle, didn't know about the whole sleep in a diagonal thing.
*widow makers- ummmm, don't even remember checking... to my defense, I'm sure I gave it a quick look.

BUT even tho I was cold, and woke up inches from the ground... I slept better than I ever did in my bivy sack.

I guess that's all for now.... I've learned a lot already, and will probably learn plenty more. Need my WBBB/Superfly to arrive to visually "get" everything that I've read so far.

Welcome and it sounds as though you made a good choice in gear, hope it is all you want it to be.

Welcome from Tn. Used to live in Houstom myself. Think you will lie your WBBB. Might also consider Whoopie Sling setup.

Welcome. There's several folks from Houston that are active and/or lurking, get-togethers usually happen about twice a year that are reachable from Houston and are a good chance to get to see different types of gear being used and ask all those 'I have no idea...' questions that we've all been through. I've got a WBBB and a Big Mamajamba from Brandon, haven't had a complaint about them yet.

What part of Houston are you from?

Welcome from Florida, although I'm posting this from Texas as I have been traveling between College Station and Aistin this week visiting my kids and grandkids.
