    Looking to make an underquilt...

I recently got myself my first hammock, a hennessey ultralight backpacker asym. It has to be the most comfortable sleep I've ever had in the outdoors! The only problem is the cooling effect of the air beneath me. I've looked into getting a underquilt but can't bring myself to spend the cash for one. I was contemplating making one but again it's a lot of work and my sewing skills suck. I have found a possible alternative and would like to see if anyone has any experience with it. Seems too good to be true if you ask me.

Thanks for the link. I was thinking about getting it, cutting it lengthwise and using it as an underquilt. Now that I see that others have considered it I think I'll give it a try.

    Welcome to the site!

Also, look at this option for a No-Sew UQ.

I've been using it since spring, and it works pretty well. Needs refinement, but I'm taking it on my trip canoeing next weekend. You would have to modify it for a Hennessy bottom entry. I added draw strings on the edges, and tabs on the side (all using tyvek tape - no sewing at all,) and it improved the usability well. It won't win any fashion or coolness awards, but it does work.

Or, look in the 4sale thread. Hacktorius had a Supershelter here:

Well if making one is an option for you I say go for it. From someone withvery limited sewing experience, all ive sewn is my diy hh clone and two stuff sacks and some scrap pieces for practice, it is a lot of work but mine cost me about 15 bucks. wally world fab and some high loft batting. I used this tutorial to make it and I am super happy with it. Honestly, with this tutorial i found it pretty easy it just takes time and patience.
