    Another hammock under the bottom

I just got my HH a few days ago. My question is; in the colder weather would it be any good if I purchase a cheap $25 or $30 hammock and set it up as a double layer and put my insulation in between? Any thoughts or ideas, Im open. And if you know what brand of cheap hammock. Thank you.

I have actually done what you are saying on a DIY hammock I finished last weekend. I have been trying to get some pics together, but the weather has been terrible here and I haven't had time to get them during daylight hours. I am hoping I can do so today. I have come up with a novel idea for keeping the sides together too. Stay tuned!

I did exactly what you propose, Used a channel end hammock with bungee cord through the channel for suspension clipped to mitten hooks on the main hammock suspension. I slept in my Hennessy all winter in the house using a down lap quilt for insulation. During a 0 degree cold snap I used an electric blanket between instead of the down quilt. Also experimented with garbage bags filled with bubble wrap. Go look on the Hennessy web site and watch the super shelter videos. I eventually bought a super shelter and love it.

I've done the same thing with a Crazy Crib and a poncho liner, I added some tarp clips to the side. Worked like a charm.

I made an undercover which was basically another hammock with polyester insulation sewn in. It's good down into the 50's and with a poncho liner and insulfleece was cozy down to mid 20's. No attachments along the sides just gathered and attached to the hammock whippings.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
