My pad is a windshield sunscreen (truck size) with a piece of fleece sewn on the top. I've slept out in the low 40's very comfortably, using my 20 degree north face sleeping bag as a top quilt.

I've also used a thermorest pad inside a fleece sleeping bag liner as a pad - same toasty feeling.

The fleece helps with condensation and comfort. I do the same with a CCF pad.

I cut down my CCF pad to fit from my shoulders to just below my butt. My sleeping bag doesn't get that compressed by the rest of my legs, so i'm fine with just the bag there. I was comfortable down to 45 in that. Felt like I could handle 40.

I'm about to glue a Thermoflect sheet to a CCF Walmart pad, blue side up, silver side down, on top of the pad.

    The idea...
The pad will protect from conductive heat-loss while the Thermoflect provides warmth. I'm hoping the fabric layer will minimize condensation. I have a couple friends that are planning to try them on the ground next weekend.

I'm just switching to a WBBB from my tent for a thru hike of the Colorado Trail this summer. I have a 20 degree quilt for inside, but I was just wondering...

how do you guys pack those pads from walmart? Outside the pack exclusively?

You're talking about the blue super thick egg crate ones for 15 bucks right?

There are a variety of Walmart pads. That is part of the problem. If it's the all blue fine grain ripple it's fine. If it's the laminated pad with open cell on top of the closed cell there is a lot of extra bulk but it might breath better. You might also want to check Gossamer Gear as they have a pad sale going on now. Wider material also light foam.

has anyone used the GG Thinlight wide pad?

I'm worried about it only being 1/4 inch thick, but their 3/8 thick version is only 19 inches wide.
