Just did an overnight at Myakka River State Prk, and followed up with kayaking in the Englewood, Florida area. Had a great night hanging in my Hennessy UL Backpacker and a Kelty Noah 9.

This is the next park for me to try hangin at. I've been setting up at CALOOSAHATCHEE REGIONAL PARK in Alva since its so much closer to Naples where I live. Did you do any hiking?
No hiking this trip as I was planning to leave early to kayak. There are lots of trails to hike at Myakka, though water levels are very, very low currently. Birding is excellent at the N. Lake, and you'll see LOTs of alligators at the weir.
I'd called early to verify that hammock camping was allowed and they'd discussed this at the meeting the day before. They ask that in the main areas we always use tree straps for tarps and hammocks, and hang from cabbage palms rather than oaks if possible. I was located in an overflow area as the park was overbooked, and the ranger told me that hanging from oaks was fine there. Next trip for me will be Silver River State Park.
Myakka is a beautiful place! Now that hammocks are "legal" in Florida's State Parks, i must plan a trip there again, this time to hang! That would be next winter of course.

I have been there more times than I can count on my fingers and toes- always tented, never hammocked though. My parents still live in SRQ so maybe next visit i'll have to bring my Warbonnet to say I did. Don't you like the Kelty Tarp? You can configure it so many ways and mine cost under $40
.... now I'm homesick.

Great pics and I'm glad you had a good trip.
I have the Noah 12 that I now use for the beach. The pic's of the 9 now have me thinking about one someday. Its possible that I may be developing a tarp fettish. I carried my 12 several years ago but had no idea how to pitch it properly. I think they are a little heavy for longer trips but car camping and shorter trips it looks good. Your pics look like you had a great hang. Thank you for posting.
