Why not a simple toggle to secure the ridgeline?

Per title, that's what I'm using, so far without fault.

I have a spliced loop at the ends of each ridge-line. The loop gets passed around the tree. Then a bight (loop) in the line is barely pulled through the loop. A toggle is inserted, and the line is pulled tight. A prusik on the line, already attached to the end of the tarp and to the line, adjusts the location of the tarp.

Without pictures, this is about what the original Dutch clip did for strap suspensions.

So far, I am having no problem. What am I missing in security for simplicity, ease, and minimum expense?. The toggle is a just an inverted " J "of aluminum rod, a few grams in weight.

Go about 50 seconds into this video and I think I'm demonstrating what you're talking about.

Opie had a similar system a couple of years ago. The toggle certainly works. If I remember correctly, he even had toggle that went though the d-rings on the tarp too to secure it to the CRL.

TeeDee and I have doing this for years. Never had a problem. The simplest method for setting up a tarp ridge line and as secure as any other method.

Been using trial sticks for the toggles and never had to worry about "losing" a toggle.

    Yep. A vivid pic, thanks.
And to others: Thanks for confirming that I have missed not some danger. I agree with Tired Feet: Why not a stick?

I recall searching this forum and not finding it. (Not doubting it is there somewhere.) Vendors aren't suggesting it either.

But, the reason I raised this question is that I see increased mention of mini-biners on ridge-line suspensions. Some of them are lightly loaded; none of them are free, and in some applications they definitely get loads in excess of what mini-biners are designed for-- keys and no more than 5-10 lbs. (with 400lb bs lines?)
There is, after all, and especially in aluminum, such a thing as fatigue failure.

And who wants to upgrade the 'biner when none is really needed?
