Ridge line Connection

I am in the process of a DIY WBBB. I am down to pinning my bug net and attaching a ridge line. I have a couple of questions. 1. What is the best way to connect the ridge line? Is it to my woopie slings that I am using for suspension, or to something else? 2. Should the ridge line be adjustable? 3. Does anybody use separate connector loops from the suspension line thru the hammock, then clip the ridge line to these loops so that the ridge line can be removed when laying in the hammock with the net pulled to the side?

I use an adjustable ridgeline on my WL LiteOwl hammock. I attach it using the titanium ridgeline biners from Dutchware.

I use a fixed ridgeline made of 1.2 mm techline for my hammock. It consists of three separate pieces. The first is a long piece with a locked Brummel on both ends. The second piece is a short length of line with a locked Brummel on both ends. Both these pieces are attached to my UCRs by larks-head knots. Then the two pieces are connected via a small 1.2 mm soft-shackle. It works very well for me

for the 4-6 hammocks I've made with the WBBB style whipping, I attach my ridgeline through the whipped bundle...

Here's how:

1. take an 18" piece of 7/64ths amsteel, make it into a loop with a locked brummel (make 2)
2. Tie a triple-overhand knot in the end. Superglue in place.
3. Push the loop through the whipped bundle, leaving the knot on the outside of the hammock.
4. Attach the ridgeline to the loop on the 7/64-Amsteel.

One end I make a locked brummel, through the amsteel loop on one end, the other I either make a whoopie or use a taut-line hitch, or tied to a prussik loop if I am lazy...

I don't bother with setting it up to be removable. The one issue there is if you have your suspension too tight, and you release your ridgeline, you could tear your bugnet.

My ridgelines run through my whipping then larks head knot to the whipping. I do use an adjustable ridgeline until I find the right length for that particular hammock I made. then I either tie it off or replace with non adjustable ridgeline and I have an adjustable ridgeline left to use on another hammock.

I make mine adjustable. I finish both ends with a Brummell that I loop over the end mass, over the whipping.

If you're making a WBBB clone with a sewn, zippered bugnet, you don't want an adjustable ridgeline because the bugnet is a fixed length. You'll either cause sag in the netting or rip it when you adjust the ridgeline.

Adjustable ridgelines are great to find the sag but like MAD777 said above, you can cause damage. Plus I have played the grass is greener with ridgelines and totally messed a hammock up. Once you find the right sag stick with it.

Good point. I'm fiddling with my ridgeline length on my WBBB clone now before I put the bug net on. Mosquito season is here though, so my time's just about up!
