    Fairy down sleeping bag

Hi all, I was just looking for some info about a sleeping bag I found. It looks really well built and the label looks legit. Name brand is "Fairy" , model is Everest. It's hard to tell how old it is because it looks to have been barely used, zipper runs smooth. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this particular bag or brand and I am curious about temp. rating, quality, value.

    "2005 Fairydown Everest and Scorpion
The 2005 Fairydown Everest and Scorpion models combined the highest quality fabrics and down fill with some exciting new innovations, resulting in the ultimate in cold climate sleeping bags.
Building on the experience of the Superlite project I again utilised a radical differential cut and then took this a step further by maintaining constant thickness over the whole bag. The intention was to reduce heat loss and any excess engineering required to rebuild thickness where it has been taken away. So rather than the bag tapering in profile from full thickness and insulation to no thickness (and therefore no insulation) along the zip and hood edges, maintaining constant thickness allowed the same level of insulation (thickness) at the hood and zip edges as anywhere else in the bag. A fabric wall along the zip and around the hood prevented the inner surface ever contacting the outer surface. This concept allowed the two walls along the zipped edges of the bag to seal against heat loss far more effectively than traditional construction methods."

Apparently, Fairy Down is what Sir Edmund Hillary used when he summited Everest.

All learned by powerful Googlefoo Best I can tell, that bag was designed to be a 0* F bag.

    thanks

very cool, apparently my google-fu is weak. And I was literally on my way to go buy 20* bag at REI and stopped by the thrift store in town just to browse around.

    best part

Best part is, there were 2, zipped together. I thought it was pretty heavy, when I picked it up. When I got home and unrolled it I was quite intrigued.

Good info olzeke, it gave me a lead on contacting the manufacturer. The bag I found is definitely old. I would place it in the '70's due to the zipper and pull being from another age. And it is semi-rectangular, not a mummy. Also, at the foot are 2 drawcords to cinch when rolling it up, as far as I can tell newer down sleeping bags would use a stuff sack, not be meant to rolled up. I have sent a cordial email to the manufacturer to see if they can give me any information on the bag(s)... hopefully I hear back

The owners of FairyDown bought MacPac in NZ in 2008 and put the two brands under one roof.

Definitely a well respected brand, but I think they mostly keep the Fairydown label for NZ now.
