I'm looking to buy a Blackbird 1.7 single and was wondering (for those of you that already use one) what the best light tarp would be. Any favorites out there?

Thats a tough question. It would be a matter of how much your willing to sacrifice. I had a BMJ and loved it for my blackbird. Great coverage and the weighy wasnt that bad for the real estate. I cant speak for the other sizes but they are designed around the BB and Traveler. Mine was extremely well made. The Edge seems to be a popular one for the smaller/lighter silnylon tarps.
Tell us more on what you want to do with this tarp. Are you talking a winter tarp, 3 seasons, how much room do you need under the tarp?

Even though it's heavy, I love my Superfly! Tons of room underneath so if rain rolls in you dont have to try and stay under a small tarp.
+1 on the Superfly. I can't say it is the best, as that is all personal preference, but the superfly works well for me.
I am also a fan of the superfly. I like the coverage and the privacy factor. I also like the false sense of security that comes with doors.
I was told there'd be no math on this exam. ~T.D.
Yeah, sorry. I guess I could have given more details in my question.
1. 3 season
2. Lightweight
3. good or decent coverage (would like to use in porch mode)
4. don't "need" doors (would rather save weight)
I guess the big question is what are the minimum demensions you need in a tarp when using it for the blackbird?
The superfly looks awesome - just heavy
I agree that the BMJ seems to be the best value in terms of weight and coverage. Personally, though, I like to be able to see out, which of course you can in porch mode, but I think the Edge is definitely sufficient coverage for a little less weight and a good bit more viewability on both sides.
Try this:

9x5 minimum, as long as that's as long as your hammock is hung up.
There was an interesting thread about tarps and how bigger tarps were popular
(once a mac cat standard was a big tarp!) http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ad.php?t=22187 from 2010. Good reading.
