I did this hike south bound one week later than your schedule, in Oct 2008. Great weather and fall colors were perfect. Your schedule is doable. Enjoy the views from Kittatinny Ridge.

I will have to discuss this with my social director but if I can free up the time I would like to go along. I have some logistical questions like do you have any idea how much it will cost to get you back to your home? How hard would it be to catch a bus back to DWG? How are you handling food resupply? Blah blah blah. As I think of more questions I’ll send them to you in a PM.
    Peace, Gris

There are 4 possible resupply points all within a mile of the trail:
    1: Branchville NJ
    2: Unionville NY
    3: Glenwood NJ
    4: Vernon NJ

Not sure about a bus back to the GAP. I'm looking into having a family member meet me at Greenwood Lake. It's about a 1 1/2 hour trip back to the Gap so a ride back shouldn't be an issue.

Camping within 100' of the trail is permitted north of Sunfish Pond and 200' from rivers lakes and streams, so Hammocks look to be a viable option.

My initial plan was to carry all my food with me, but the resupply points are looking like the way to go.

Gris I have an answer for your question regarding a bus back from NYC. The Delaware Water Gap, PA is served by Martz Trailways and a one-way ticket is about $35.00.

I'm looking at starting on the PA side of the Delaware early Sunday morning and hiking as far as I can the first day. I'm using the original schedule as a guide as I plan on camping once I'm past Sunfish Pond. According to the NJ Trail guide we can't camp along the trail in Highpoint State Park, but it is aloud at the shelters. Hope there's enough trees.

I was looking like a solo trip but it looks like I will have a few hikers joining me.
Possibly Gris, Ohoulihan from the WhiteBlazes Site and a third person from my Civil Air Patrol Squadron has expressed an interest in doing the hike as well. For some reason he's a ground dweller, plans on using a Bivy Sack. And they call Hammocks a Bear Burrito.
