I would also add that we took some old ideas (like this from GLP) some new ideas (which came from a selfless dude who doesn't want to be named) and some prototype testing (like that which came from the originator of this thread who we asked and who graciously agreed to test) and we took all of that in stride and tncamper made a terrific bug net with a little help from his friends. I am ticky and tncamper is "tickier" and this net suits us both. Perfect in its blend of weight/performance.

A special thanks to our New Jersey friend and to our Texas friend.

I think I'm going to take your advice with the permethrin, but I was just going to spray it on. Any reason I need to soak?

No, not really. I just have an aversion to spraying stuff into the air I breathe. And waste...it's the Scotch-Irish in me.

How do these bug nets do against black flies? They are much smaller than mosquitoes and stay out until the end of June in the Whites. These things are really nasty. They come right on through mosquito head nets(I don't know the specs) and the gi spec bug netting.

They're made of what our supplier calls no-see-um netting and the holes are tighter than standard mosquito netting. Our supplier doesn't have a "holes per inch" rating on it, but it's a bit tighter in hole size to some other netting I have that's 525 holes per inch. I'd make an educated guess and say it's about 625 which would put it at the equivalent of nano no-see-um.

I know this... gnats can't get through it.

Great job BIAS, (Brian and Shane)....
I had a chance to test mine out Firday and Saturday night and it worked out great.
I absolutely love the cinch cords for tighting it on the suspension. I have had a couple of nets that had the velcro and they always worked there way open leaving the bug net a mosquito trap. The cinch cords work perfect on the BIAS net and no bugs made their way to me.
    Thank you
    Shawn

Read the application instructions from the Sawyer spray bootle, and realize that soaking is close to about what they are directing you to do. It doesn't take hours to cure or lose volatiles. It takes hours to dry , like clothes from a washer. No, you are not soaking it with the spray; but if you were half as wet in you hammock, say from a sprinkler pass, you would "not be a happy camper."

You should consider making a model of nanoseeum and use some 1/16th or 3/32 shock cord to pull in some of the gram counting crowd. I have made a diy tulle bugsock and after a years + of use, my anxiety of shredding the fabric pushed me to nanoseeum and I really love the stuff. Cheers
