Here are facts; presented as clinically as possible.
The 'dynamics' of that activity are exactly that, dynamic. The forces are not going in just one direction at any given moment. This requires a very stable hanging structure, lest accidents happen. Personally, I trust lumber over tubular steel. A well built wood stand is just about bomb-proof. Properly tied into the building's structure is even better. Understand that you're a renter, but it may be worth presenting your case and proposed method of hanging to your landlord. Worst he/she can say is "no".
The box store stands; wont' even try them. One of Ed Speer's style iron-pipe stands has proven it's abilities, so I can't say they won't work. However, a solid wood stand with a wide base gives a more reassuring stability.
Let's please be extremely careful how we discuss this topic. Remember, it could be your kids reading these posts.
Trust nobody!
Yes. For clarification, I am seeking hammock and suspension combinations that have been tested. A home-built, heavy wood stand sounds like the best option next to drilling into the wall from what I am being told. And as long as forces don't exceed 400lb, the ENO DN should be ok.
