I've hung in areas with bear sign, but am careful to cook and hang my food and other smellies far from camp when in bear-country.

    Thanks. Good advice.

I attended a motorcycle rally in Vt 20 years ago and after the rally I camped at a state camp ground in either Vt. or maybe N.H. and it was the first time I ever camped some place where I was cautioned about bears.

I remember receiving a hand out at check that had 3 main points:

    Use the bear proof dumpsters.
Don't have food in your tent.
Don't have any clothing in your tent you wore while cooking.

Which probably goes along with the advice to cook someplace a good distance from where you decide to spend the night.
