8 day/190 mile do I need base layers

    Hello,

I am doing an 8 day trip next week in the UK and it is insanely hot now and it is predicted to be the hottest june in 5 years. I have a winter UQ rated to -13C and a 3 season sleeping bag. Will i need my cotton base layers. They are coming in around 370grams so could do with losing them if people have experience of not using them in a hot summer.

At home I'd prefer to be cold than hot, but last time I was hanging I got cold feet so I'm thinking socks and keep my thin walking trousers on may be best. Thoughts please?

I sleep warm, but I wouldn't even consider sleeping in anything other than clean (as possible) hiking clothes. I never bring special stuff to sleep in unless it's wicked cold.

I always bring an extra set of underwear and an extra shirt to sleep in. It helps to keep the funk down on multi-day trips, and the extra underwear helps keep swamp crotch at bay. When the night time temps are above 70 F, that's usually a cotton t-shirt. When the night time lows are below 70 F, it's usually a longsleeve merino shirt.

During the "winter" here in FL (read: "night temps below 50 F"), I also make sure to bring big, loose sleeping socks.

It's worth the weight penalty to me. YMMV.
