    Hennessy Tree Hugger

I am a total newbie to hammocks.

Is it alright to pull through one loop of the hennessy tree hugger inside the other loop, and tie-off the hammock on the one loop. This way, the tree hugger will self tighten around the tree and prevent slippage. What knot do you use in this scenario? Any problems with this method?

If the tree is small (or if I have a longer tree hugger) and I can wrap the tree hugger twice around the tree, that's fine. I can then use the recommended Hennessy figure of eight lashing. But assuming I have a large tree that the hennessy tree hugger can only wrap itself once around, then my concern is that it could slip down. Does this actually happen?

    Thanks.

I can't really help with the first question but as long as there is tension, even small bit will do, between the two TH then they should not slip. (Mine didn't)

Yes it's just fine to do it that way, actually it's the normal way to use a strap. You can still use the Hennessy knot through the one loop.

    Thanks for the reply bcaron.

Just to clarify, when tying the Hennessy figure-of-eight knot through the one loop, you are basically tying the figure of eight pattern (3-4 times) through the same single loop each time right? Theoretically, you could also tie a simple round turn and two half hitches through that single loop without any difference right?
