    Knee Pain from Dead Space

    Hey, Guys,

I've noticed after my last few hangs, that I have knee pain throughout the night and in the morning. It's the pain you get from , say, resting your feet on a coffee table for a while, while sitting on the couch. The legs are level, but there is dead space that does not support the knees, so they sag, which causes pressure. It's rather painful after a while...

So far, all I've done to alleviate this problem is to sleep with one leg bent, so a foot rests under the exposed knee. It fills some of the space, but not all of it, and it's not always fun to have to sleep "cocked up."

I'm thinking of buying/sewing a long, ultralight pillow to stuff under the knees.

Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have any other/better suggestions for a remedy?

    Thanks!

    ZT

Lots of folks sleep with their lacks, jackets or other items under their knees...

yep, roll up something you already have with you, or get used to sleeping with that knee crooked under the other one, like a ballerina.

Right on, guys. Thanks for the tips. I'd rather use what I already have, rather than add more gear. I'll check the didnventory and see what'll work!

if nothing else is handy, or left over because i'm cold and wearing it all, i stick my pack under my knees (golite gust or ula circuit).

Yep...same here. I always have something under my knees when I'm on my back or between my knees when laying on my side. Doesn't matter if it's in bed or the hammock, it has to be there.

I was just thinking about this the other day. When I first started hanging I needed something under my knees to prevent hyper-extending them. I have found that I no longer have that problem and I think it is because I have really found the sweet spot and improved my set up technique.

I always keep a "clothes sack" in my pack and usually throw that into my hammock just in case I need something under my knees (and I will continue to do that) but as you get more hang time and improve your lay (lie? ) you might be like me and rarely need it

As Diva said... I also like to have something like that handy for between the knees when I'm on my side. So it's always handy

    Best of luck,

Has anyone ever tried suspending their knees from the ridgeline, with wide straps, or something like that? Guying out your pants to the ridgeline ? Seems like that might be even easier than trying to arrange compressible/shifting padding throughout the night. Now that I have a hammock, I'll try it here in a day or so, to satisfy my own curiousity.

That would be fun watching someone that forgot they were attached to the ridgeline try to get out of the hammock.

I know I would fall straight on my face

Experiment with different sag angles, too. You can use an adjustable structural ridgeline to make it easier to keep track of small adjustments. You can do this in conjunction with a knee pillow, too. It may let you use a smaller pillow if it doesn't solve the problem completely.
