    Tinkling from a Hammy

Long time lurker first time post. Thanks for all the great info everyone.

Anyway when I hike and hang, I like to get good and sauced in the evenings. The problem is around 3AM I get that pesky feeling down below - I believe some refer to it as the call of nature. Then I hang there for a few minutes trying to ignore it/debate it, etc... and that never works. Ever try getting out of your hang, totally housed, in the pitch black? Not fun.

I'm thinking of cutting a "porthole" (using a large grommet) in the middle of the hammock so when the urge can't be contained I can just roll over, dangle the dragon, and get my pee pee on.

Does anyone have any experience with what I'm fixing on here? I don't want to ruin my hammock in the process.

how's this for a first time post?

The usual rule is, "Pics, or it didn't happen." This is a special case: the rule is suspended.

There was a huge thread about this stuff a few months ago.

Just get up and do your thing man. Trying to aim while tired and a little under the influence, while laying in something that shakes is not a good combination.

OR if you really don't want to get up.... pee in a nalgene and then use it as a hot water bottle.

Not how I imagined hitting 50 posts, but that's the joy of the Forum! So many problems with your idea, but certainly funny nonetheless. Most glaring I see are 1) that most don't want to sleep where they go to the bathroom, and 2) not sure they make grommets big enough... ;-)

My buddy tried the nalgene bottle in a hennessy bottom entry. Needless to say, it didn't turn out well. Sleeping gear wet, clothes wet, smelling like pee, pride hurt. He's never tried it again.

And he wasn't drunk. Can't imagine even trying when drunk.

I'm with you on this one... haha.

And back on topic... I actually do remember reading a post or a video or something where someone actually mentioned this before. But they recommended just leaning over to one side of the hammock and doing your thing. I think that is better then cutting a hole in the bottom of your hammock i'd hate to have the hammock rip and fall out... Especially where I just relieved myself...

And since i'm sure someone will mention this, isn't there a rule where you should answer the call of nature at least 200' away from a campsite?

Here is a thread about it.

I had to do my 2am pee break when it was -20f outside once and it was an absolutely terrible experience.

I have talked to some people who have done the ole' fling and go off the side with success. However, when it's 20 and above it's really not too bad getting up.
