Sorry, not gonna make this one, guys. I've been invited to hike up in VA that weekend. Doing the AT from Massie Gap back to Damascus, but taking the last 10 miles or so on the Virginia Creeper Trail. Hope y'all have a good time! Plenty o' pictures please!

    Well, fine. Be that way.

    But have fun!

I have my eye on the VA Creeper Trail on bikes, with the whole family sometime soon. So take good mental notes!

hey, don't forget taking hikes with crazy engineers and their space agency program manager friends!

neither of whom will be at the Fall 2008 version, but we'll be trying for spring 2009.

Too bad there isn't an "I wish" choice in the poll.

Oh, you mean the ones who entice you to hike by talking about the great views and then you get trampled on the trail out in the burning sun by hundreds of thundering scouts with their great big feet and great big packs ?? You mean that one?

Ah women, so easily discouraged. The great view promised by the map was Just Around the Corner after you turned back, chasing those scouts. To teach them lightweight backpacking skills, thought Kurly and me.

They were a hoot though weren't they? 80 lb kids carrying packs that could have carried 40 lbs (Be Prepared, after all.)

Next time I'll bring a GPS and we'll know exactly how far the next Great View is from sampled location.
