I am new to this. I however have slept under Military wool blankets while camping many times. Alot in the 40's down to the teens and some in the single digits. If you have a good bottom insulator, two wool blankets will keep you toasty if you are wearing your long handles. That is sleeping on the ground. I intend to find out about the hammocking
As far as the weight, most of the wool I have will weigh in at less than 2 pounds per blanket. You can carry 3 blankets and a homemade UQ at less weight than a tent and a bag. At least ones that the average guy can afford. I hear these prices about what is cheap and blah, blah, blah; and I understand real quick that cheap is a subjective term. I wonder why a few pounds might make such a hugh diference unless you do this daily. US troops carry a heck of a lot more than what I take as being considered acceptable here. Also, I see sacrifices on where gear was made because it is light, which means if imported it is definately light duty as well.
To each his own, but if you find the right wool blankets and sew a bottom quilt to cover you core, 2 blankets will keep you snug as a bug in the bags and quilts you can buy, at the same or relative same weight as a $500 bag and and $200 quilt. $100 versus $700 of the produced products; Pretty much speaks for itself to me. God Bless
