    16 oz Quilt?

Almost have my gear set up down to the SUL mark! Currently weighing in at about 5.16 lbs. The only thing I can see cutting my weight down any farther is reducing my TQ weight. Right now I am using a 20* HG Burrow. Anyone know of a TQ around 1 lb or less that would do well at sat 20-30*?

Even a DIY would be awsome since most of my kit is currently DIY except the TQ and my Caldera Cone System

    Thanks Everyone!

Not sure that I know of one better/lighter than your burrow....except maybe a custom one made with lighter fabrics. would love to see your gear list though

I made a 10 ounce top quilt that has 6 ounces of down which will get me just below 40 degrees F. Another 3 ounces of down should bring the temperature rating down to 20 degrees F. That should bring the top quilt in at about 13 ounces.

It was a Karo Step quilt. I used D7 nylon for the shell at 0.67 oz/sy and 0.33 oz/sy baffle material.

Nice MAD777. Ill check that out and try one. My next two projects are an Asym tarp and a new pack.

Really love my burrow and will definitely keep it but the SUL bug has me again. Been driving me crazy that I went from 4.5 lbs pre hammock to 6.5 after. With handmade gear I should be about 4.86 lbs!

I attached an excel file of my gear list for you engine386:
let me know if you have any questions about it.

Should have got that burrow made from M50. I have the 20* M50 burrow and just put it on my scale. 13oz with the stuff sack. Just sold a DIY replica that Fronkey made of the same quilt and it weighed 13.25oz with stuff sack. Good luck on your search but that would be my solution, Lighter materials.

Did you just request that Stormcrow make it with M50? I would be interested in how you set that up with him and then putting my current burrow up for sale when it was finished.

    16 oz TQ

A JRB Shenandoah, rated at 40 deg, might go to 20's with enough camp clothing worn, for a warm sleeper, and assuming UQ is adequate to the temp.

I've used a Western Mountaineering High light for a top quilt, and it kept me warm around 20 degrees fahrenheit.
