Hello Everyone,
My son and daughter-in-law are expecting their first child in about four weeks. (It will be a wee boy!)
Does anyone have any experience or information on being in a hammock while you're pregnant? Is it safe?
Thanks,

I would probably be concerned with that inevitable fall that we all have probably experienced at some time during our hammocking. Or hang REALLY low to the ground.
And congrats on a new grandchild.
Congrats granddad. Mine is ins coming to visit next week. Had a long conversation with her today but as she is only 15 months old; I don't think I understood all she was saying but she did sound serious.
I would also worry about the falling.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
I can't see a compelling reason to take a chance with the health of the baby. Save the hammock for later.

Another concern is that pregnant women shouldn't sleep on their backs after 20 weeks. She would have to have a hammock in which she was comfortable sleeping on her side.
IMO not worth the risk with just four weeks to go.

I have to believe it safe, it's gonna be safer than driving a car thats for sure. There are places in Brazil where 100% of the population sleeps in a hammock 100% of the time, pregnant or not. Tho' I'm not a doctor, I can think of no compelling reason a pregnant woman couldn't sleep in a hammock, particularly if she finds it more restful than a bed.
I will further qualify my opinion: not only am I not a doctor, I don't have any children,so maybe think twice before taking my advice.
Good luck,

And a cushion underneath. An insant stop even from just a few inches can be traumatic (the Missus, who is expecting child number 7, sometimes strains muscles just standing up or sitting down--I hate to think what a full hammock fail might do to either her or the child). Caution is the watchword here, and there can't be too much.
You're gonna need a bigger hammock
+1 Hammocks would be much safer than driving. The only physiological concern would be sleeping on her back after sometime during the 2nd trimester. The weight of the the baby can put pressure on some vessel that will cut off circulation to the mom's legs and feet. The bottom line is whether or not it would be comfortable for the mom. Generally if mom is good, then baby is too. If she's already at 8 months, she won't be comfy until after the birth no matter where she sleeps.
