I hang my hammock w/ less sag than most lay near flat down the center, but I regularly use a insulted air mat as well.
I also use a spreader bar above my head to open it up & have very little shoulder squeeze.

One thing to keep in mind w/ using less squeeze is that you will be putting more torque on the hammock, it's supports, & the trees (or what ever) or use to support it.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

I don't want to get in your personal business. But it seems to me that, considering all of the comfort it has given you, that you wouldn't be abusing your air mat by insulting it regularly. I'm just sayin.....

Oh... I'll have to blame that one on spell check. It's supposed to have the correct word that I was trying to spell at the top of the list of options so I can just click the first one w/o thinking about it

    Well, it was spelled correctly.

I have both an ENO double wide and a Claytor JH. I prefer the Claytor over the ENO and find the extra material on the ENO simply flops around becoming an annoyance more than a benefit. Sure, you can lay a bit more diagonal in an ENO but I think that's overrated. I'm 6'2" and sleep like a baby in my Claytor JH. I once slept over twelve hours in mine....a personal record. I am prone to lower back pain when sleeping in a bed but have experienced absolutely none when sleeping in my hammock.

On a side note, I'd like to know why the last six inches on each side of the ENO double wide simply flops around in the breeze. I feel like I could cut it off and it would make no difference. Is this a design flaw or what?

    I agree.

I sleep just as well in my DIY, not quite as diagonal but a lot less material.
