    Ridgeline Question Please

I spent my first night in my new Hennesy Explorer and, well it wasn't the best sleep of my life. Ok I was a little concerned about being a bear burrito so that may be one issue. The question I have is about the ridgeline. I noticed mine was extremely taut when I got in the Hammock. Is that normal?? Since the instructions were less than perfect I really didn't know what I was doing.

Can you adjust it and see if that helps?

I'm no expert, but a pic would help alot I think the ridgeline in my explorer is fairly taught too, can't say I ever really thought about it though. I found that it does take a little bit to find the "sweet spot" in it to lay.

Where did you do this hang? I was in APP a couple weekends ago, can't say that being a bear burrito crossed my mind... I guess drinking a healthy share of whisky before bed helps with that :P

    thanks

I was up at Algonquin park, on Little Joe Lake. I didn't wat to go too far in just in case I wanted to call it quits on the hammock. There really wasn't any instruction with this thing so I was worried that I set it up too tight and might damage it. Going on a trip to Massassauga Provincial Park soon and will give it another go..

I've found that for me, the HH ED ridgeline always seems tighter than I've seen in others post in videos showing how tight the ridgeline should be. Not sure why that is...but it's how mine has always been since I've hung it. I've tried hanging 'looser'...but then it's not comfortable.

It's been awhile since I had a HH, but IIRC both of mine had very taut ridgelines. I think they are supposed to be.

Yeah the ridgeline tends to be rather tight on the Explorer, unless you hang with a lot of sag. Don't judge the hammock by one nights sleep. There is much more of a learning curve with hammocks than with tents (zero learning curve). Try different amounts of sag in your suspension, experiment. Give it time, practice in the backyard between trips.

    Cheers

I really like the whole idea of hammock camping so I will define ly be trying it a few more times before I make my mind up. I'm just curious if I should have gotten one of these bridge type hammocks. They seem to keep you flatter.

I have yet to try a bridge hammock, but I get the sense that each type of hammock - gathered-end vs. bridge - will allow you to lay fairly flat. The key difference seemes to be that the bridge hammock allows you to lay "flat" in line to the ends of the hammock, while the gathered-end hammock requires that you be at an angle (up to 30*) across the center line of the hammock the lie "flat".

Little Joe is a nice lake! Definitely keep trying, set it up in your back yard as was mentioned and try out different things with it and eventually you will find what works for you.
