    Newbie in WI

Been lurking for awhile. Time to get engaged. Got a SBP from my son-in-law for Christmas and began preparation for my first real trip. My brother has been hiking & hanging in GA for awhile so it was natural to plan a walk with him in late April. We spent an amazing week on the BMT. It really kicked my butt (see age) but I'm not sure that I've had more fun. The freedom of the less traveled BMT and it's wonderful flexibility of campsites was great. I really want to try and experience something similar in Wisconsin (without the 1K changes in elevation). I've hiked a little bit of the Ice Age but it just doesn't seem to be conducive to multi day hike/hangs. I could be wrong about that. I'd really appreciate any thoughts & recommendations from those of you in my neighborhood. I'd love to do the Superior (Shug and Fronkey make it look great) but it seems a little far for a quick 3 day weekend. Any thoughts?

    Welcome!

Here on the west coast great hiking and hanging is wherever one finds it.

Sadly I have to drive far far too far to have more than a day hike. BUT that doesn't strop me form getting out or hanging. Sometimes i turn a day hike into an over-nighter & a multi-day event

Congrads on having a Son in law that engages you - That is PURE GOLD!!

    Hey dude,

Not sure where you are in Wi. but they are actually having a big hang there this weekend. If it's close enough, maybe you can swing by and check it out.

The SHT is an awesome place and a ton of fun too. Welcome to the forums!

I'm waaay down in the SE corner of WI but if I didn't already have a commitment for Friday and Saturday I'd be there. This is exactly what I'm looking for. Maybe a little more to the center of the state next time? I really want to try and find a week to make it up to the SHT in the future. I think my brother could come up from GA for that one. We were thinking about Linville Gorge in the Fall but I don't think it's gonna happen. I'm old and way out of shape but dang it, I like this stuff.
