Question Would taffetta make a good tarp?

I'm looking to make a cheap tarp for some summer camping. Does anyone know if the crinkle tafetta from tableclothsfactory is waterproof? If so, do you think the 90x132 fabric would make a good tarp for the occasional rainy night hang?

Sorry, that's not waterproof. The lightest option you want is silnylon at about 1.4oz/sy. If weight isn't an issue, then polyethylene coated tarps will serve you well. You can find those in camo colors too. If cost is your biggest issue, then blue poly tarps from Walmart will keep you dry, but they won't last as long.
