Tempting, if only to play with it and see how it could be modified to drop that huge weight...

More information here from Helsdonoutdoors, including their tarp ("Flarp" 170"x115" hex) and net tube ("Tropic Screen" 700g/24.5oz--HOLY MOLY!)

It looks like a customized Bridge.

Instead of trying to further customize it to reduce the weight, why not just make/buy a Bridge and customize it yourself?

You have the advantage of starting with a reasonable weight.

one more question. . .put aside the weight of this hammock for a moment. Is this style of hammock more comfortable then the gathered end hammocks like Henessy in that is lies flat? Can it hold more gear? In other words, for those who canoe camp where weight is not really an issue, is this a better choice?

I was under the impression that the top cover was a tarp. So you would have to also provide a tarp plus a 5 pound hammock. It still interests me for car camping, backyard or to take ot a hang. It just looks neat, like an air canoe.

A good point. But to ask a question back, why do so many here buy other production hammocks and then work on ways to make them better and/or lighter? Even those with well known diy expertise will alter an already good hammock, for example, the JRB BMBH, not because they couldn't make something lighter from scratch, but for the challenge.

And I do NOT have diy expertise.

And it looks like an interesting concept. And it is relatively cheap. And if we write it off merely because it weighs the equivalent of a small tank, then we might miss out if the body design has some new redeeming quality of comfort...or maybe we'd just be falling for their marketing hype.

Thanks for bumping this, I had been wondering what happened to that hammock since the 2 days ago when it popped back into my head. $119 almost seems too good to not try and with mods I'm sure the weight would be much less if I wana actually pack it, but at the very least this would be a rocking kayaking hammock.

It's all about trades....I get a new hammock, my wife gets a new dehydrator. I seem to benefit doubly. And yeah, I have one on order too...
Hard to pass up with the price almost 50% below MSRP. If nothing else it should make for a good backyard relaxer.
