8 oz is great! maybe youre at the point where reducing weight comes down to the tarp design, not the material used? If you can get by with a shorter hammock, you can use a smaller tarp, that uses less material etc.etc.
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.

Pretty much. I used 1.1 to make the Asym design on backwoodsdesign.com.
Will have to field test to see if I can make any adjustments to the size.

I ordered a cuben hex custom tarp from Hammock Gear. Should come in round four ounces give or take a few grams.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I found a partial roll in my garage - don't know where it came from. I'm always fascinated by what I find in my garage.

There are other lighter Tyveks but they may not be durable enough for a tarp. Here is a chart from Dupont. Kind of hard to read, but you get the picture.
This Australian vendor makes silnylon and Tyvek tarps.

His Prospecting Tarp weighs 490g (17.28 oz) in Tyvek, and 560g (19.75 oz) in Sil-Nylon. Not sure what kind of Tyvek he's using.
