My explorer ridgeline is tight, not piano wire tight but pretty tight.
Agree with others here, need more hammock time to dial it in. I sleep
really well in my explorer. It takes some experimenting, ie.... footend
higher or lower. Pillow type, underquilt, possibly a small pillow under
your knees.
Post a pic or two on here of the hammock set up. HF members are super
supportive.
I know a guy who drinks honey whiskey just to sleep in the woods. Not sure about that, seems that honey breath might be a bear attractant. Still, I'm not averse to Moonshine Margeritas from PackIt Gourmet, personally, and I have had some peach schnapps after dinner a couple times as dessert...so no judgement
Oh, ridgeline, yes, very taut. Mine is worse after I swapped for whoopie slings. Suggestion when I had the 2QZQ mod done was to insert a micro biner in the ridgeline, if you have the zippered that takes it out of the back of your skull. Haven't done it, might though.
I also had my first night's hang on Little Joe That was last summer though, and much like you it was a poor night's sleep (got too cold). I have the HH Expedition and yes the ridgeline is always taught -- nothing to worry about there.
To help me sleep I usually take an over the counter sleeping pill before bed. Been doing that since before I got the hammock, it was more essential on the ground but it helps in the hammock too. I find whisky just makes it so I have to get up and pee during the night which is a royal pain. But the OTC dramamine pills allow me to sleep like a baby, which is essential when on a portaging trip.
