Grizz, how long is your webbing for this setup?

I like the idea of still having loops at both ends of webbing because I can then use the webbing for the figure 8 if I need to.

    About 6'.

Twice in the last two weeks I've needed to hang from trees too large to have enough webbing left to do the Marlinspike hitch after wrapping.

I carry extra suspension grade cord though, and made an "extender" loop out of it. Connected the extender through one webbing loop, brought the other webbing end through the other end of the extender loop and did the Marlinspike hitch per usual. I had some cord touching the tree, only on one side. The brunt of the force continued to be taken by the webbing.

I am probably the only one on this forum still risking my life with them, but I've been using the zig-zag cleats for more than a year now. I've had a few camping trips and many many trips to the local park to take a nap during lunch. I am so much more productive at work afterwards.

I think Happy Camper deserves a prize for sacrificing herself for the sake of hammocker's advancement, and for her honest, unabashed reporting of her sudden returns to earth...I'd recommend a crash pad.

now wait... all kids know their parents are idiots no matter says otherwise. But sooner or later most kids come to realize how much the old folks learned.

    the pic your searching ??

    heres what i did
i used the Hennesy straps and tied 2 1inch rings at one end
The black rope you can see on the picture is actually the hh original ones
so i didnt cut or sew anything ... just added the rings
the set up is a lot faster than with the figure 8 knot
and it has never slip ....
