    Maiden Voyage

I just received shipping notice on my Blackbird today.
    That's the good news.

The bad news is it will arrive while I'm out of town on business and I'm leaving on my camping trip the same day I get back,....so,....I will not have a chance to experiment and play with it before the actual wilderness hang.

Ordinarily I wouldn't want to head out with untested equipment, but I don't want to leave it behind either. Nor do I want to carry two hammocks in my pack!

Take a chance on something new? Or stick with old tried and true?
What to do, what to do.......?

I've been hanging for 13 years.
I have three Clarks (Ultralight, Tropical, NX-150) and an Exped Scout.

Pretty much have the gist of it, but hitting the trail with something straight out of the box seems overly adventurous. I'll be fiddling with rigging, ridge line, tie outs, under quilt,....all on the first night out,....and I had planned to spend that time sitting around a fire and drinking George Dickel.

Mine arrived just as we were pulling out of the drive. Took it with me and the hang was not as good as any since but was still better than the ground.
    Where ever you go,
    There you are.

With your hanging experience, I would take it out. Even if you don't find the sweet spot right away, it is still better than sleeping on the ground.

    All true.
But I keep thinking,...I could take the Clarks Ultralight, be hung in 5 minutes, and sleep like a rock. Just save the WBBB for the next trip.....

But,.....I'm sure you know how it is.....
There will be a burning desire to try this sucker out!

So,....I think what will happen is......
    I'll take both hammocks.
The first night, when I get to the trailhead I can "car camp."
I can try the WBBB, and if it doesn't work out, the next morning before hitting the trail the Clarks goes in the pack.

That sounds like a good plan. Make the car carry the load until you figure out if you like it or not. Then take the comfy one for yourself.

George Dickel will help me get the new hammock tuned just right!
