No, because the tree huggers and slap straps are redundant, except the slap straps stretch which is why they get bad reviews. Get the webbing/whoopie sling combo and that's literally your whole suspension. You have the hammock, you're set.

And lastly, are whoopies as easy to make as the videos/guides make it look? Found some amsteel blue locally...

Thanks for all the help and suggestions!

I didn't make mine, I ordered the whoopie/webbing/toggle from arrowhead equipment. From what I've seen of the videos, making your own is rather easy.

Order from Dutch and it will arrive before you hammock

My Warbonnet strap and buckle is as easy as it get; however, the Dutch setup just look cleaner. (and so much safer than my DIY )

So, update on what i've got planned! Definitely like the whoopie slings for a lightweight, reliable way to hang my hammock for hiking and such. Definitely going to make a set for hiking/camping trips.

But, I think i'm also going to get some 10' lengths of poly webbing for just around campus and such as a quick and easy way to hang the hammock. Just going to put a knot at one end, wrap around the tree and feed it through. Then to attach the eno, I'm just going to tie a marlin hitch and hook the biner from the hammock to that.
EDIT: Ended up getting 3/4" webbing (never saw papers, but he said it's polyester). The guy at half-moon swore by it and said that's what he's been hanging his from for a while. Rated at 3000lbs. Was a little cheaper too.

I think the issue with 3/4" webbing isn't the tensile strength, but more the concentrated forces applied to the tree. Might be a nice way to save pack weight if you add some sticks to the mix to level out the forces even more....

I also don't know how the rangers view 3/4" webbing. I've read somewhere that even 1" webbing can still be problematic... (Someone correct me if I'm wrong, though.)

Yeah, the whole point of webbing is to distribute weight to avoid damaging the tree. Use sticks between the bark and the 3/4" webbing, or save it for something else. I'd go no smaller than 1", less than that I'm not sure you're improving over rope or cord, honestly.
