    New Blackbird 1.7 dbl.

I've got a new blackbird 1.7 double layer and I can't wait. I hope I didn't make a mistake getting the 1.7 instead of the 1.1. Has anyone out there ever tried both of these and knows what the difference is? I didn't have anyone to ask so I got the 1.7 and an edge tarp..

I just got one in the mail yesterday. The 1.7 double has a double layer hammock. This lets it support more weight and the two layer lets you slide a pad in between for insulation if you wish.

The added layer and the 1.7 oz/yd fabric does make the whole thing heavier, but if you are a large person in either height or weight, it is kinda a necessity. From what I have read it will also let a heavier person sleep flatter and not sag as would happen in a lighter weight version.

    Enjoy.

    thanks

I feel kind out crazy. My wife and I have been back country camping in tents for years, and I just started hammock camping and already I will have 2 hammocks.

I used to have a DL 1.7 when I was heavier. When I lost some weight I sold it and got DL 1.1. I currently use a SL 1.7. All of them give you a flat lay but the DL 1.7 might be a touch flatter with less fabric stretch. Depending on your weight you may not actually feel much difference. If that's the case, the issue is the DL 1.7 will be heavier and a bit bulkier. Not a problem if you canoe but if you are a weight conscious backpacker it can make a difference.

My 1.7 Double arrived on Wednesday. Compared to my Skeeter Beater Pro it is much stronger and has a much flatter lie. At 245# I max out the Skeeter Beater.

The Double 1.1 would have been OK but I don't do much long distance hiking so weight was not an issue.

I love the WBBB, as soon as the zipper side tie-out is moved to the lower side of the zipper it will be perfect.

    Thanks Bubba,

Shattered my femur skydiving so long hikes are not in my future but my canoe is gonna get used, so the extra weight shouldn't be an issue. My wife is the lucky one, she gets to pick between the WBBB and the HH Explorer.

Scooter, FYI, I have both a 1.7 dl and a 1.1 dl. The 1.7 has whoopie sling suspension with an adjustable ridgeline. The 1.1 has stock webbing suspension. I get a good lay in both. I don't have any scales but the 1.7 is lighter than the 1.1. Both are nice for different reasons. You will love your blackbird once you get it all dialed in. Happy Hanging.
