    Wind proof fabric?

Does anyone know the lightest fabric that is wind proof(ish)? I want to make a TED (top entry detachable) winter weather shield. The top will be vented with an organza strip. Thanks!

Cuben as I'm sure you know. However, M50 is very wind resistant too and half the price. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

I've not used it myself, but I've seen very good reviews of Thru-Hiker's Momentum 50 fabric. Supposedly, the triple-pass DWR treatment makes it very wind-resistant.

    Hope it helps!

Edit: Fronkey beat me to it!

OK, Thanks guys. That M50 sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. I really have my heart set on a cuben tarp, so I'm saving my pennies for one. That'll be my first cuben item.

At .69 ounces/square yard, that M50 isn't much heavier than cuben. And at almost half the cost, it'll make a decent weather shield. Thanks again!

In my opinion, your TED bugnet design made from M50 is the ideal winter sock!

IMHO I think you could do without the ridge cap. If you just clip the middle of each side to the RL it will be closed enough (assuming you're using it with a tarp).
Last year I made a TED inspired canvas hammock sock and, although it was actually a little too warm for the canvas to really come into its own, I had much less condensation issues and was still plenty warm and protected when I left the top flap open. Just something to think about.
    Good luck,

Nothing wrong with M90 other than it's a little heavier. It's still pretty light stuff.

That's the plan. I think a TED winter sock will block the wind good enough without a cap. And, as you say, no cap should allow condensation to escape, at least to some extent. Great video, by the way!

    Thanks guys!
