DIY Internal Pole Mod, Carbon vs Aluminum Poles -- any other tips?

    Hey HF!

I intend to add an internal pole modification to a 12' UGQ winterdream. I am thinking of putting together my own poles from Quest Outfitters.
Any thoughts on carbon vs aluminum poles (aside from the obvious cost and weight difference). I haven't noticed anyone selling carbon poles for internal mods, is there a functional reason for this or are they just too expensive?
I plan to use the Beastee Dee rings, anyone have experience with these not working?
    Any other tips?

    Thanks!

Take a look at dragon plate carbon fiber. They're based out of new York and have carbon fiber bars, rods, and tubes for pretty cheap. They have a $30 minimum order, but they also have various harware for doing many, many different things. You may be able to do it quite a bit cheaper than going through a third party. The woven stuff is pretty spendy but the non woven is rather cheap.

I used them for my backpack build where I more or less ripped off the zpacks design. It's crazy cheap, except for (just like everything else) the fittings and hardware. And even the hardware from them isn't TERRIBLE.

Interesting.. I have been planning to change my pole to carbon fiber for some time. Just haven't had the mind to dig through details. It looks like braided tubes have more flex than the roll wrapped. That has been a concern for me. I find fiberglass is too whippy, as are the cf arrow shafts I've bought for this purpose. Does anyone know their way around CF well enough to recommend which CF tubes to order from this vendor? If not, I'll call them.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

They are very helpful, just make sure to ask for apllications when you call. I used flat bars and they are quite stiff. To fill out the $30 minimum, I bought some 1/8" rods to build a kite and find it incredibly whippy. I had less than zero experience with carbon fiber, so didn't know what I was getting. It's probably worthless.
