    Indoor hanging question

I have a question concerning a stand for indoor hanging. Would it work if I were to take 4 2X6s or 4 2X8s and place 1 on each wall, from floor to ceiling and then place one on the ceiling and one on the floor between the two uprights. Each piece would be secured to a stud or ceiling/floor joist. Could I place hooks in each upright and then hang from that? Would I need some corner braces and maybe hang from the braces?

That way there would be no stand in the middle of the floor. If I took the hammock down, I would have open floorspace. I could actually paint the 2xs a contrasting color to the wall as part of the decor.

Would this work? If so, I think I'm going to try it.

If your going to anchor to your walls anyway, why not just stop with anchoring to your walls? I used two rated at much less than this one available @ Lowes for $6 ea., I picked up 4 rated @ 1200#'s for $7 and am using 2 of the D rings for my hammock attachment points in a single line suspension system. Just use the correct fasteners and it's a bonus if you can anchor to door frames or window frames.

Hope that save you a lot of work and keeps you from putting that stuff on your walls!

depending on the height of the ceiling you may want to turn the two up rights so that they are perpendicular to the wall otherwise even braced top and bottom you may bow them. that is if you are hanging a significant distance from the top, if you're near the top brace i don't think it would matter either way.

A less expensive option that will do less damage would be to use a length of chain on each side. Here is a video I did a couple of years ago that shows how I hang a hammock in my gear room:

There are only a total of four holes, minus the centering holes. All of which, are easily patched.
    Trust nobody!

I'm more and more intrigued with these plate style attachments. Like Gary R

Spread the load over 4 bolts and two studs per end.

It's just a great idea. I've seen things like this on docks and other places before but hadn't thought of it for this application.

    Kudos.

I am in the process of setting up an upstairs room Gary_R style. I don't really believe I need to anchor to two studs at each end for strength, but in my case the actual location where I want to put the anchors is between the studs, no brainer. This will be my winter indoor hang area for every day use.

I guess I was thinking about the boards on the outside of the wall because I have no idea exactly what is behind the sheetrock and I have no idea if the wall studs will support the weight. Based on everything else about this house, I would get everything hanging, climb in my hammock and rip the studs from the walls.
I'm just trying to figure a way that will eliminate the need for a portable stand.

I hadn't seen Gary_R posts. I really like that idea and I think I'll give it a whirl. If I pull the studs out of the wall, I post some pics.

Post pics if you dont pull them out of the wall!
If your worried you could run across more studs and make a long shelf that sits over your mount point.
hmmm I could do that and put mounting points every 2 ft.... Options...
