We hit around 75 at the MAHHA's potluck at Gathland MD at one point, but I want to say it averages about 40-50. Don't know if that's the highest. Others can comment about their hangs.

I think one of the Florida hangs had over 100.

Mt Rogers winter hang draws quite a few as well, but less than some of the warmer events.

We've grown each year at our Texas Fall Hang in November ... started with a couple of dozen, nearly doubled that the next year and last year we were over 50. By mid-November I'll be able to report how year 4 went.

... now, I was talking participants. If you're talking hammocks/set-ups you can put us over the century mark.

    Wow

Are these organized events, as in sponsored or just a lot of friends getting together?

I was thinking of trying to organize a Michigan Hang Event, but I was undecided on if the environmental impact would be an issue.

i was thinking of the National forest land; as it is here in Michigan there are straight plots of replanted pine forest that cry out for hundreds of hammocks. But then I started to think well maybe that's not such a great idea as there are no facilities in those areas.

Just wondering how these events are organized...
Thanks for any input, Sorry to disrupt the thread if this is off topic

"Organized" is a scary term. Ours started as friends getting together and posting an open invitation here so we could make more friends.

There have been lots of good ideas gleaned from trip reports. Among those that we do is a Saturday night pot luck dinner.

Show and tell is something that just happens.

As we've grown we added some "semi-organized" stuff like splicing lessons, cozy construction, bushcraft demos, and freebie drawings...

The environmental impact for us has been a non issue since the Texas Hang is a car camp event in a state park camp ground.

The main thing I'd suggest for a first time is keep it simple and have everyone fend for themselves food wise and just have fun. Be sure to take pics and tell the world what it was like.

^^^Hah! This guy is the very soul of organization. If only the rest of us were half as organized.

In Florida it's a get together of friends. Of course, a few team up here, there and everywhere to coordinate on food among themselves and each group ends up bringing and cooking enough food for the entire hang! Basically, it's an eating festival

Then of course there is the show & tell for every camping item imaginable but that just happens. The only scheduled event is the group photo - even though it's the only time you have to be somewhere, we still can't get everyone together

Kayakers bring their boats, hikers bring their backpacks, loungers bring their chairs and these groups wander off down rivers and trails as the urge hits them while the loungers keep the fire going.
