    Noob success!

So I survived my first night out in the wilds in my hammock! I'm a big guy (330 lbs) and was a little wary of the idea of my hammock staying suspended for an entire night. My previous field tests had only lasted for an hour at a time max. With that being said, I now know that it will hold throughout the night.

I'm using an ENO double nest/ENO bug net with modified amsteel and aluminum smc ring ends that I'm connecting to some webbing with a marlin spike hitch. I noticed that the rings will hold to the toggle perfectly.

I also noticed that I overcompensated for the weight that I would be applying to the hammock, and made it a little too stiff for my personal preference. I got a little shoulder squeeze, and the mosquitoes got to part of my arm since the hammock was so taught, and I wasn't sleeping on anything else inside the hammock.

I figure that it will take a couple more outings to feel out my personal preference, but I'm confident that I will make due armed with the knowledge the forums have provided.

Thanks for all the great ideas, and I'm sure I'll be posting more about my outings as they happen. I'll be going to a hang with a buddy of mine around the Ozark National Forest in Arkasas next week. Hopefully I'll have some pics to share!

Good for you!!! Sounds like you need a little more sag in your hammock to reduce the shoulder squeeze. But it sounds like you probably know that.

Would like to see some pics of your suspension system. I've never heard of rings attached with marlin spike hitches. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for posting your report and continued happy hanging!

Glad you had a good night. A little more fiddle factor and you'll get it all dialed in. Let us know how its going.

Hopefully the first of many more enjoyable nights.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.
