My hammock buddy and me have adopted the skewers last summer for the times when we are in the mood for more elaborated meat cooking than just a sausage on a stick, but not willing to carry a heavy cooking set.
Throw your meat in your favorite marinade in a ziplock, let it absorb all the precious and succulent flavors while hiking. Then when you arrive at camp, make the brochette, kebab, satay or whatever you like, grill, et voilà.
Perfect fancy camping food, for the weight of a pair of ultra light skewers (that could even double as tarp peg…)
But your "pit out of stick" is now definitely on my to-do list for this summer :-)
